Sloane the Brand was created in the winter of 2023 by Cecilia Chen and Margaret Hohenshelt through a shared passion for all things fashion and art. Seeing the rising corruption taking place through fast fashion and textile waste, they wanted to create a solution.

Cecilia Chen creates the designs for these shirts inspired by her favorite art history eras: art deco, surrealism, and impressionism. Together they set up their website, social medias, and landed a spot in their school bookstore. They also hope to cultivate an appreciation for the arts in their Texas community. They want to build connections with museums and galleries to provide high school artists around them with opportunities to share their creations.

2025 research titled,
Looking Beyond the Label: Detecting Truth in Greenwashed Promises.

My research revolved around the use of the marketing tactic known as greenwashing on consumer behaviors. I wanted to learn more about how our consumption patterns contributed to a leading environmental problem: textile waste. Furthermore, the paper also looked into slow consumption, with an end goal of finding out how we as buyers can contribute to a more sustainable fashion industry.

My research was also nominated for the Pioneer Research Journal, placing it in the top 6% of all papers written through the program in 2025.
